Last Friday afternoon my sister, mom and I took advantage of a gloomy afternoon to start wrapping the pile of gifts accumulating in my mom's spare bedroom. The wrapping is simple and we used only a small number of materials but I love, love, love concept. My mom has a beautiful collection of old black and white photos from both sets of grandparents that my sister and I drool over every so often. When is a better time to display them other than Christmas?
This Christmas, our gifts will be adorned with a few special photos from the collection to act as part of the gift as well. Because the photos show themselves off, the wrapping is simple. Butcher's paper, twine, a roll of ribbon and evergreens do the trick. My parents have a home nestled in the woods, surrounded by pine and maple trees...pretty easy for us to gather a basket of evergreens.
Usually this time of year NY is blanketed with snow, but for some reason we have not a drop this season. Total disappointment...and my fingers are crossed for snow before Christmas Eve.
I snipped a few sprigs from an arborvitae bush, made a paper ring, and hot glued the tine branches to make a mini wreath.
I hope our afternoon of wrapping inspires you to try something new this year. If you don't want to give away an original photo, scan a copy. Also, if tree snipping is not an option for you, head to your local florist or market where evergreens are usually inexpensive this time of year. Enjoy the rest of your Monday!
*On a side note, sister and I do not wrap our own gifts. Instead I help my mom wrap presents for my sister and vice versa. In case you were wondering. ;0)
*Revision...You can see a detailed tutorial how to make the mini wreath in this post by clicking HERE.

I love the little wreaths to use with gift wrapping. Where did you purchase the red and white string?
ReplyDeleteHi Tracy! I purchased it from Crate and Barrel last holiday season.
Deletelove it! thank you for inspiration :)
ReplyDeleteVery lovely! I had a question: How long will the fresh evergreens last? - Could you wrap a gift say, two weeks in advance or is is it better to wait until a few days before you give the gift if using fresh evergreens?

ReplyDeleteI added them to my packages a week before Christmas. They were ok...just dried out a little bit. I wrapped everything weeks in advance them added the wreaths closer to Christmas. I hope this helps. =)
